80 TIMES
June 28th, 2010
I shot this with (my) Mamiya RB67, and this was the result. Somehow the tabs that release the next Polaroid, got stuck together and proceeded to pull out the next Polaroid halfway connected to this one below (I think creating the lack of processing on the left hand side as a result..) and so on and so forth, for the remaining pack of Polaroids- ruined. At least I got 6 shots out of a 10 pack, and got this lil gemicon below..

I AM HYDROGEN
November 24th, 2009
Mitch was kind enough to ask me to whip up a couple t-shirt designs for Captain Fin Co. the other day, and I was very happy to help out. These are what I came up with. I personally like the butt/baby graphic best, but it isn’t up to me to decide which one will be wearable in the months to come…

TIME FOR CHURCH
November 5th, 2009
So between going to Baja, going to see Phish, looking for a new place of living, and seeking out more work- I’ve been a bit busy as of lately. Before I left to go to Indio, I managed to squeeze in a session with Mitch, JJ, and Scotty on a nice offshore day at Church. Crowds were minimal, waves were plentiful, and the lighting was straight horrible. I opted to shoot some slide film and figured if it came out crappy- I’d just flip them into BW post production. I was kinda pleased with the results and just went with it. I pulled out some of the cardboard slide mounts I purchased a while back, and proceeded to cut out the best frames of the day. I had to get out the iron to seal them and had to make sure to be incredibly accurate and not melt the positives. I wrote and typed on each mount just because I remember looking through the legends contact sheets and just loving the aesthetics that they had pulled off without even trying. Here are three of my favorite slides from the day, you can see three more here- and at a much higher resolution..
**Also, Danimal sent me an encouraging email yesterday entitled “Hot off the Presses..” – KLxVans tees are in! check this out!

ANOTHER STATE OF MIND
September 21st, 2009
I was in the middle of watching the Youth Brigade/Social Distortion 1982 tour documentary, Another State of Mind last evening, and I paused it to go out to the backyard and shoot this image. If you haven’t seen the film, I highly recommend it- even if you’re not a fan of punk or music history in general. Gaining perspective is always inspiring and motivating, especially when I can translate it through imagery.

POLAROID TEST #092988
September 3rd, 2009
A while back, my good buddy Geoff let me borrow his RB67 for an extended period of time (basically, until he wants it back). I haven’t really ever shot 6X7 format before, except for a few times back in college (but my brain is a bit fried from that point in my life) and didn’t have a desire to take on another format. Well, Chad moved in last night, and yesterday we went over to Samys to get some supplies. I picked up a box of 120 Polaroids (only costing a total of $12 something for a box of 10- MUCH better than the $5 a piece 4X5 Polaroids) and shot this of Chad in the backyard. I’m assuming the redish/orange streak is from the defective color Polaroids that were living in the Mamiya Polaroid back for over a year… Either way, kinda dig it. Bad is good (at least for me).

A SYMBOLIC DREAM/ERROR
August 12th, 2009
I had this really intense dream the other night, and I really stuggled remembering the majority of it, as well as typing it out in complete detail; as words can only go so far. I was at a summer camp with old friends from 8th grade in church. This woman was about to speak, and then she made us look out the window to help draw a parallel…

_____________________________________________________________________

I’ve been rolling all of my own 35mm b/w rolls off of a 100ft spool of HP5, and due to this- they’re MUCH more difficult to load into the back of the camera. There isn’t that little lip on the edge of the roll that helps to properly feed and advance frames- but rather just a straight cut (shown above). If you notice to the right, the multiple over-lapping of the frames…yeah, that’s where the roll was not advancing, so i exposed 36x on that one frame- rad. This is part of the dilema of doing everything yourself when it comes to film. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t- at all. At least a ½ frame came out- sorry Nathan & Dave- EPIC FAIL.
*I know, I need to cut the roll like one that you’d purchase at a store- I now realize this.
