VOICES INSANE

January 12th, 2010

This is from my first session back in nearly two plus months (thank you surgeries) for yours truly.  My good pal Cam Oden came along and documented a few waves of Me (one of which, pictured below) for a project David is currently working on; plus Tyler, JJ, and Cody Simpkins were out and murdering it- especially Cody- WOW.  Super fun waves, and really fun surfing with good friends (Greg & Worm).  Good to be back.

MOUNTAIN JAM

March 27th, 2009

Lovelace and i were talking earlier this week about some new scenery for the hulls he’s been pumping out lately, that i’ve been so blessed to shoot recently due to some free time.  We discussed pretty much every kind of idea when it just dawned on us- Ras Nick lives on the mountain, in a cabin…why not shoot there?  So, that’s what we did for three solid hours on thursday afternoon.  We took Steve’s newly shaped 7′2 lovelace hull ‘Juanita’ and photographed it all over the few acre property that Ras Nick resides on.  I shot all formats, and will be posting them throughout this week.  The first shot below- is of Hadleys new blade in front of Ras Nicks humble abode (we figured this would be a more than appropriate shot, considering Steves blog goes by the name Cabinessence..), and the second is just a portrait of Good ‘Ol Ras Nick relaxing on a log.  I really liked the light, and detail of his dreads.

On a totally separate note- its so incredible to have the internet again; as i have not had access for almost 2-3 weeks now.  My internet service at home was shut off early, and i’ve been in the process of moving into Kyle & Gildas.  I’ve been updating at wee hours of the morning and from random locations from random devices.  It sure is nice to be sitting in my new room, listening to GD_DP12:Providence RI, 1974/26/6 “Other One Jam > Spanish Jam >Wharf Rat” on headphones, while lifting my heavens appropriately and comfortably for the first time in a couple weeks.

FLOSSSSED

March 26th, 2009

Ross Floss Bushnell made it to Rincon (finally), to join Albers and myself for a fun afternoon session.  Ross really liked Kyles D fin as well as vampire board.  Vampire board is real real fun.

Albers shot the middle two- the first of Ross on D fin, and the second of Ross on Vampire board.

KILLING CHILDREN AT RINCON

March 20th, 2009

…is what Vampire Hull does best.  Yet another, bladey hull of death from Sire Lovelace.  God, how stoned are you Vampire Hull?  This is the 4th incarnation of the now famous She-Hull (she hull > dead sled > black diamond > vampire hull..) and in my opinion, may be ryans best yet.  Albers (i’d call him Kyle, but that gets confusing..) let me test drive it today, on some sub-par windswell…and man did that thing go.  I noticed the rolled out belly helped with the playfulness, and wasn’t as ‘tracky’ as the dead sled or the she.  By far the flattest hull we’ve experimented with thus far, this thing has literally zero rocker- stickin it true Albers style.  It holds trim like a dream, and is so incredibly fast, i could barely hang on through some sections.  The 8oz glassing makes for a heavier, less flimsy board, and holds its drive through its weight.

check this out.  very flattered.

TIME TO MOVE

March 10th, 2009

Cliff shot this neat portrait of me in front of a few of my prints i did for Dave’s opening night, i really like how it came out.  I should be getting back a couple rolls of film in a day or two, depending on my planning/scheduling skills…but here is a make-shift shot of the Almond Logs you missed out on the other night, and now in general- as a few of them have sold.

Also, as i was typing this entry, RH sent an email informing me that BS2 is up, and a photo of mine made it in, among the likes of george greenough, ryan heywood, simon perini, and william sharp.. just to name a few.

DOGS LIKE ALBERS

March 5th, 2009

This dog randomly wandered up to me one day at Rincon, and figured i’d frame him in a few of my shots.  This was one of my favorites; him inspecting a newly met Kyle Albers on his Liddle.  I kind of despise shots of ‘the walk out‘ or ‘the walk in‘, but i couldn’t pass this one up, the opportunity was just there.  Thanks dog (and sorry i didn’t get your name).

A FINE DESIGN

February 17th, 2009

Winter thus far has not been very wave-riding-friendly.  It seems like every week is another storm.  Albers and i found a window yesterday for about an hour, and found ourselves riding head-high glassy-ish peaked lines at the Queen.  He rode his hobie fish (the justin template), and i rode the dead sled.  It worked, but i wish i would have ridden the black mamba- just due to how section-y and stormy style the surf was.  I think it rained the whole time?  Meaning, i will definitely be sick again here in a day or two :(
I haven’t been shooting as much lately.  I’m searching, and finding.  I am experimenting.  A giant project approaches.. and then.  Then.
