BIKE SCENE
September 9th, 2010
I shot these one of the first times I met Ryan (sometime toward the end of December of ‘08). These were some of the very best times of my life thus far; They taught me more about myself, what my friends and I are capable of once we set our minds to something, and how important solid friendships truly are in this day and age.
Now that summer is on it’s way out, and the foggy weather and winter swells are heading in… I’m going to miss being in good old Santa Barbara once again.

TWO TREE HILL
March 30th, 2010
Back in college, Bob & I would drive to Ventura a lot for random missions. Anytime we’d drive down south, we always noticed this one hill that had two trees on top- nothing else. We would always talk about making a picnic and taking a guitar, good vibes, and a hammock with us up there for a day just to relax. We never found our way up there, but I still think about it anytime I drive by that area (or see clips of it in Dane Reynolds daily vids..) – part of me really likes that we never made it, leaving it all to my imagination…but another part of me would really like to go up there sometime..

BARGAIN

I’ve always been envious of my father Jeff, who was born in 1959. He was blessed (in my personal opinion) to live in a time full of (relevant to my life) history that I personally, would honestly k i l l for if given the chance- good OR bad; Kennedy, The early days at malibu, ‘the summer of love’, the Bill Graham / Haight Ashbury / Acid test movement (Dead, NRPS, Airplane, Marry Pranksters, etc.), Altamont, Woodstock, Led Zeppelin man!, ‘the liddle league‘, the birth of pool skating, the shortboard revolution: Maui in ‘70ish & Oz before/after, the punk rock boom in ‘76- then later switching to early hardcore stages in ‘80… the list just goes on and on.
Eric Foreman was born in 1959 as well… I’ve found myself lately being consumed by countless hours of That 70’s Show, subconsciously hoping to slip into a perpetual state of dreaming.. Hoping that I could be mentally and physically transported back to the golden age (sober- not via LSD)……………………………………
Some drastic measures need to be taken or some sort of revolution needs to be kick-started… the 2000’s are a depressing black hole, man. Seriously such a drag… End times must be near..

GLIMPSE THE TRUTH
January 21st, 2010
“This is about one of those journeys that sometimes brings surprises that you don’t expect to encounter.”
- Robert Plant, 1977
I shot this in my room yesterday afternoon; My street was turning into a river, and my house was leaking. This was shot with available window light on an ISO 100 4X5 Polaroid- the exposure was 2 seconds @ F5.6. Stone faced (pretty boy) Tindale.

I also went back to Burger Records the day before yesterday to pick up that Zeppelin bootleg I was talking about the other day- it was eating me alive with curiosity about that No Quarter that was too long to fit on a single side. And I was wrong- it’s 6 songs, not 5. The No Quarter alone made the entire album worth the purchase- not to mention the brain bending Out on the Tiles > Moby Dick featuring Keith Moon/John Bonham. I sat indoors for the remainder of the day after shooting the above shot of David, and marinated in my thoughts and on that No Quarter- hard. This is what the cover looks like…

ANOTHER STATE OF MIND
September 21st, 2009
I was in the middle of watching the Youth Brigade/Social Distortion 1982 tour documentary, Another State of Mind last evening, and I paused it to go out to the backyard and shoot this image. If you haven’t seen the film, I highly recommend it- even if you’re not a fan of punk or music history in general. Gaining perspective is always inspiring and motivating, especially when I can translate it through imagery.

EMPTINESS & SOLITUDE
September 11th, 2009
This series was shot with my digital point and shoot on ISO 1600- primarily for an idea I wanted to remind myself of. Normally, I would be disgusted by the amount of noise in these photographs (as I feel it’s more than absurd), but for this I feel it kind of fits. I noted all these around dusk in Oceanside during a ten minute walk I took through a couple of back alleys. I’m planning to go back sometime next week to properly execute these photos, but felt like these were more of a visual notebook, and wanted to share my personal notes with you.
