MAD WOLF REGION
February 1st, 2010
I’ve been in this super gnarly rut lately and am having trouble trying to do pretty much everything. I’ve noticed these feelings and mental blocks come and go- but it is always the same exact feeling. I usually will drive around alone listening to music in my truck until I can find something to photograph; helping me to think a bit better. I ended up in this abandoned parking lot in the middle of nowhere yesterday. I looked down, and this is what I saw.. I’ve been spending so much time looking up lately- that I’ve completely forgotten to look down…

GLIMPSE THE TRUTH

“This is about one of those journeys that sometimes brings surprises that you don’t expect to encounter.”
- Robert Plant, 1977
I shot this in my room yesterday afternoon; My street was turning into a river, and my house was leaking. This was shot with available window light on an ISO 100 4X5 Polaroid- the exposure was 2 seconds @ F5.6. Stone faced (pretty boy) Tindale.

I also went back to Burger Records the day before yesterday to pick up that Zeppelin bootleg I was talking about the other day- it was eating me alive with curiosity about that No Quarter that was too long to fit on a single side. And I was wrong- it’s 6 songs, not 5. The No Quarter alone made the entire album worth the purchase- not to mention the brain bending Out on the Tiles > Moby Dick featuring Keith Moon/John Bonham. I sat indoors for the remainder of the day after shooting the above shot of David, and marinated in my thoughts and on that No Quarter- hard. This is what the cover looks like…

DIGITAL BUDDAH

I like finding record stores that don’t just carry 95% crap. Its nice when you walk in and a couple of the first LPs you see are “Iron Maiden – Live in Japan” & “Led Zeppelin – Live at the Forum”. I went to Burger Records in Fullerton yesterday just after it had started raining with CT, Robson, & Thomas; I’d never been before. I can honestly say this was the longest I had spent browsing in a shop…pretty much ever. I really wanted the bootleg Zeppelin show I mentioned ($40 – 4 Lps, 5 songs..), but I settled for these instead.

VOICES INSANE

This is from my first session back in nearly two plus months (thank you surgeries) for yours truly. My good pal Cam Oden came along and documented a few waves of Me (one of which, pictured below) for a project David is currently working on; plus Tyler, JJ, and Cody Simpkins were out and murdering it- especially Cody- WOW. Super fun waves, and really fun surfing with good friends (Greg & Worm). Good to be back.

ENO’s ROUGH&RUGGED
October 28th, 2009
Through Scotty Stopnik, I met Mitch Abshere. Through Mitch Abshere, I met Shin Yamasaki. Through Shin Yamasaki, I met Enoshi Takashi. Enoshi Takashi is a surfer, a shaper, a biker, and one solid dude. I had the privilege of working with Eno while he was visiting here for over a week to meet and make new friends, as well as visiting the Sacred Craft expo. Enoshi is a great guy and is doing some amazing things over in Tokyo. Check out his website, Rough & Rugged- as well as his rippin’ sweet blog, Built for Speed. Hopefully next time I will see him on his home turf back in Japan.

EXTREMELY HUMBLED
October 20th, 2009
I’ve been searching for the words to thank and express my gratitude for this acknowledgment, all day long- and am still speechless. Updating every single day is something that I can’t help. I do it everyday whether I’m here or out of town- it’s something that is incredibly important to me, and has made me want to follow through more and more after each and every random email I receive.
Thank you Nick, for your incredibly kind words and taking the time to write something so very incredible about me- just some average loser with a heart and mind that won’t let me stop taking pictures. It is a habit that I will never be able to break. I’m grateful others can appreciate my habit- whether it’s perceived as bad or good. I’m here for this very reason.
Thank you Simon, for your visit and for the encouragement and love you and your wife Jazz poured out on me during the duration of your trip. You two are incredibly special individuals, and the Lord is definitely doing some incredible things with your talents. Thank you for this incredible picture of myself at work, and the extremely humbling title you gave it. You are my brother Simon, and I love you so very much.
